Using a key – Following the trail with buttercups
Resource
This activity gives children an opportunity to use a key to identify (and name) certain buttercups. It is suitable for upper primary children, particularly as an extension activity. Throughout the activity the children will have the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge of parts of a plant and practise use subject specific vocabulary.
The activity uses a simple key providing information on seven members of the buttercup group (Genus Ranunculus). There is also a diagram of a dissected buttercup within the teaching notes. The Pupil Sheet contains images of buttercup species.
