Making compost in a bottle

This hands-on activity provides pupils with an understanding around the idea of composting and the benefits of it. Pupils have the opportunity to develop their observation skills whilst also consolidating their knowledge of food chains and webs.

Cross-curricular links can be made with PSHE focusing on recycling and re-using; maths as they observe the height of material as well as ICT when recording results and comparing their data. There is also an opportunity here to introduce the concept of solids, liquids and gases.
