Investigating if Plants Grow Better with Fertiliser

Resource

This enjoyable science practical is a useful way to introduce the topic of fertilisers, and measure the effect of fertilisers on the growth of plants. In this investigation, pupils grow radishes with different amounts of mineral salts, and compare the results. Pupils then create a ‘radogram’ to show their results – a graph made up of radish slices!

Radishes are a cheap and reliable plant easily grown in the classroom, although an additional source of light will help them grow.

This investigation is part of the ‘Living processes and what plants need to grow‘ booklet, from our Primary Plants series.
