The SAPS Plant Science Image Database (PSID) contains images of plants - whole plants, parts of plants, of the insides of plants and of plants in their environment. Many of the images emphasise both the beauty and the diversity of plant life.
The images chosen give a visual description of plants and show how the whole plant or their structures relate to function. For each image there is a short accompanying text to help you understand the context and particular features shown on the image. In some cases, the image and text emphasise the roles and uses of plants in different situations.
The PSID images should provide useful support to the teaching of plant science topics in the curriculum, based on that used in the UK. For most images, the selection is aimed at students studying biological sciences in secondary schools, but some would be suitable for younger primary pupils. Older students, say at University or beyond, may also find images in the database that are interesting or relevant to their studies. We hope that these images encourage you to enjoy plants and enhance your studies of plant science.
